Cecil Green Intimate Ceremony & Celebration
K&D’s wedding was a little different from the traditional wedding timeline, and they absolutely loved it.
They chose to have a private legal ceremony in the Atrium of Cecil Green Park House in UBC, Vancouver with only their immediate family, their photo and video team, and Dennis as their officiant. It created such an intimate atmosphere where everyone present could simply enjoy the private moment without distractions.
The larger celebration followed afterwards with all of their family and friends joining them for an unforgettable cocktail hour, dinner, dancing and one incredible party.
What made this wedding even more special was that they trusted Dynamic Weddings with almost every aspect of their day. We were honoured to provide Wedding Planning, Day of Coordination, Officiant, MC, DJ, Photography, Photo Booth, Flowers and Décor. Having one team working together from beginning to end made everything feel effortless and allowed Kathleen and Derrick to simply enjoy every moment.
The Day:
The day started early getting ready in the Bridal Room, called the Library at 9:30am at Cecil Green Park House, UBC. The Groom and his entourage got ready in the downstairs room called the Billard Room. Once ready, our photo and video team captured the First Look, where they see each other for the first time on their wedding day. The groom was in awe at the beauty of his wife to be, wearing a beautiful traditional Indian outfit to honour her heritage. The Groom, upon the recommendation of Dynamic Weddings had a custom suit made by Indocino where he even had his wedding date engraved on the inside lining of his jacket. See image below.
Following photos, they had their legal ceremony in The Atrium, a beautiful private space that was perfect for the occasion. With only their closest family present, every word carried a little more meaning and every emotion felt even more personal.
The Couple:
These two lovebirds first met over coffee more than three years ago. She immediately noticed his genuine smile and the warmth he carried with him. She also jokingly wondered whether his impressive physique was the result of steroids. Thankfully, we were able to confirm it was simply a very tight shirt. He quickly noticed her bubbly personality and how naturally conversation flowed between them. He also noticed she had lipstick on her teeth during that first date but decided to wait two years before telling her. Probably a wise decision.
Their relationship continued to grow through shared workouts, late night trips to Denny's, discovering new restaurants together and simply enjoying each other's company. When he proposed, he certainly didn't do things halfway. On a private rooftop overlooking the river in Florence, Italy, with a violinist playing as the sun set over the city, he asked her to marry him. It was thoughtful, intentional and perfectly reflected the kind of partner he has always been.
One of my favourite questions to ask every couple is, "When did you know you had found the one?" She said he simply became home. Someone she could always feel safe with and completely be herself around. He shared that it was her consistency that made him realize she was the one. The little things she does every day to lift him up, support him and make him feel loved.
Those are the moments that make relationships so meaningful.
The Vision:
They wanted to keep it simple and celebrate with their loving family and friends. That meant a private legal ceremony and a fun party in a stunning environment. Everything was taken care of and they could just relax and enjoy. They wanted to create an experience where they could spend quality time with the people they love most while still making the day incredibly meaningful. Here's how we brought that vision to life.
A private legal ceremony. More couples are choosing to separate the legal ceremony from the larger celebration, and after seeing weddings like this, it's easy to understand why. It creates a calm environment where the couple can truly be present with their closest family before the excitement of the larger celebration begins.
One experienced team. With Dynamic Weddings coordinating so many parts of the day, communication became incredibly simple. Everyone was already working together behind the scenes, allowing the timeline to flow naturally from one event to the next while K&D focused on enjoying themselves.
An extended cocktail hour. Rather than rushing guests from one part of the day to another, everyone had plenty of time to mingle, enjoy delicious appetizers, signature cocktails and conversation while photos were completed. It created a relaxed atmosphere that carried through the entire evening.
Guest interaction. As MC, one of my favourite parts of the evening was getting everyone involved. We used a fun game to determine the dinner order, which had guests laughing right from the beginning of the reception. Later we played the always entertaining Shoe Game, giving everyone plenty of laughs while Kathleen and Derrick shared stories about their relationship. We even added a caricature artist who drew guests in 3 minutes. These little moments often become some of the biggest memories from the entire evening.
Dinner and dancing. After an incredible meal, the dance floor quickly filled up and stayed that way throughout the evening. Our DJ kept the energy high while our Photo Booth gave guests another fun way to capture memories they could take home with them.
The Guest Experience:
Everything was so well thought of and taken care of. They had drinks in hand, passed canapés to tie them over for dinner and lots of fun interaction during cocktail hour. There were several photos of the bride and groom as children at various ages and guests got to guess the age. At the end of dinner, we announced the winner who took home a large gift basket.
