Mayfair Lakes all in one service

S&J met Dennis (that’s me) when I was the MC and host for Mayfair Lakes annual menu tasting event. As they do so many weddings, they have all their future clients attend to try and select the food for their wedding. Well, they asked me to host the event. I also held an officiant workshop walking all the future couples the ins and outs of a wedding ceremony. Everyone found it super informative and enjoyed all the fun ways to go through the motions. S&J were the first to talk to me after the workshop and immediately said they wanted me for their wedding. Wow, what an honour. Little did we know at the time that they’d not only hire me as their Officiant & ceremony music, but also their Wedding Planner, Day of Coordinator and MC. Yes, I did all of this myself on their wedding day. If you don’t know, I’ve been doing weddings since just after high school and have been MC’ing and Coordinating weddings for most of that time. We got along so well that it was as if I was part of the family. So many people approached me asking how we know each other. LMAO! They also hired our DJ to end the night on a high note for an all in one service.

The Day: The wedding was very well organized as S&J were amazing to work well with and were really good at meeting deadlines. We had a rehearsal two days before (one photo below) so everyone felt very confident going into the big day. So, once the day came, everyones nerves were a little more relaxed. Although, it was a busy summer Saturday so there was a lot going on. Two weddings on the property and a lot of golfers. It was also very very hot.

The Vision: S&J were super chill so didn’t have too many expectations. They weren’t overly concerned with the material as long as everyone was having a great time. The idea was to keep everything contained at the same venue and just create a fun experience for their guests. Here is how we executed their vision:

  • Keep it simple. That includes vendors. So, they hired us for multiple services and especially wanted Dennis to handle the majority which is what I did. It definitely helped. I only do this in select cases so I’m glad it worked out that I could do this for them.

  • Contain everything to the same venue. With the outdoor ceremony flowing into cocktail hour and reception in the Lakeside room, it was just a short walk for their guests. We had a rain back up plan in place in the event it rained so we can move the ceremony inside so we had the plan B ready to go. Thankfully it wasn’t required.

  • Ceremony was very important so we spent a lot more time with this. Dennis (that’s me) was their officiant so we really focused on this part. The groom got very emotional during ceremony. Thankfully we had the first look where he also was emotional. I love to celebrate love. “Let it flow” I always say. They are totally in love and it shows.

  • Cocktail hour: Although they did the first look and some portraits before, they still wanted to do the wedding party portraits and family portraits during cocktail hour. So, we intentionally scheduled a longer cocktail hour. Guests enjoyed a signature drink and canapes as they waited. As the bride and groom where taking photos, Dennis (remember, I remained on as the coordinator and MC) brought them their favourite drink for each of them. Pickleback. Never heard of a Pickleback? It’s a shot of Jack Daniels with a trailer shot of pickle juice. Would you try it?

  • Interaction: The focus was including the guests in activities. That’s my specialty so guest had an absolute blast with the games. Since I already got to know most of them having officiated the ceremony and gone around during cocktail hour, it really helped to break the ice. We did a game to determine table orders. Lots of laughs. Sadly, the photographer was on break so didn’t capture any of these amazing moments. Speaking of photographer, thank you Mackenzie for most of the images.

  • Music: As music was a huge priority for them, we assigned our Professional DJ who did an amazing job. Wow, I haven’t seen many parties with a full and fun dance floor like this for a long time. They loved to party and he hit it out of the park for this one.

  • Budget: In order to maximize the use of the flowers and decor, we used a lot of the decor to start for the ceremony and then repurposed and relocated it into the reception during the extended cocktail hour. This allowed them to use most of the flowers and decor for multiple purposes.
